It's actually hard to start writing about yourself! I never realized until I sat down to write this! :D
I graduated from Trent University in June 2006 with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biology. I can still hear mom cheering from way back in the crowd. I remember being so caught of guard I almost walked right by Roberta Bondar, whom I was so excited to meet that I couldn't speak when I finally got to her.
I got married on October 21, 2006 to Aaron Calvert at the Wellington United Church and shortly after moved out to Calgary to work for a year. I worked a great place called HydroQual Labs. My daughter, Madeline, was born on October 11, 2007. She was a month early, but absolutely perfect and oh so tiny. In December we flew back home and moved all of our belongings into storage. We lived with my parents for 6 months and mom enjoyed having Madeline there all the time. I can remember when we were just about to move out she said "I'm happy for you, but I'm sad because I won't get to see Madeline first thing in the morning anymore".
I'm currently working for an environmental consulting firm in Brighton, Eco Site Assessors. On September 10, 2010 I had my son Ben. He was born exactly on his due date and is a big healthy boy. The day of mom's funeral the kids were sitting on the bed with me when Ben looked right at me and said "mama". It was his first word and it was remarkable but bittersweet.
We now live beside my parents, we moved in just before mom went into the hospital in June. I'm glad that I was close by while mom was sick and I'm happy that I can now be there for dad. Losing mom has been the hardest thing I've had to deal with, but I have a great support network. I take it one day at a time and enjoy my family. That's what mom would want.
